Top Five Albums for 2010

Lady AntebellumIt may be hard to believe, but so far, only five albums have sold more than a million copies this year. Thousands of CDs by various artist have been released in all genres and only five have been able to sell a million copies. The good news is that this time last year there was only four albums that had sold a million copies – and the numbers didn’t look as good as they do this year.

If you are an avid listener to music, it should be obvious who is the top selling artist this year – Lady Antebellum. Their album, “Need You Now,” has sold over 2.4 million copies this year. That is almost double the amount sold by any of the other four artist. Justin Bieber’s “My World 2.0″ is in second selling 1.4 million copies while Sade’s “Soldier of Love” is in third selling a little more than 1.2 million copies. Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” is in close fourth with 1.2 million copies sold. Lastly, Eminem’s “Recovery” has sold 1.1 million in just 2 weeks!

Last year at this time, both Eminem and Lady Gaga were on the list of four top selling albums. What is impressive is that Lady Gaga’s album has been out for almost two years now and is doing a lot better then most that came out this year.

Digital downloads are doing decent this year despite the fact that sells are down 1 percent compared to last year at this same time. 2010’s best selling digital song is Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister,” with 3.4 million, making it the only tune to shift more than 3 million this year.

Who will be the next artist to go platinum this year? Will there be anymore artist to sell a million copies? I’m sure, but we will have to wait and see. There are still a lot of good albums coming out in the near future.

Lady Antebellum – “Need You Now” 2.4 Million
