Top Five Albums for 2010
It may be hard to believe, but so far, only five albums have sold more than a million copies this year. Thousands of CDs by various artist have been released in all genres and only five have been able to sell a million copies. The good news is that this time last year there was only four albums that had sold a million copies – and the numbers didn’t look as good as they do this year.
If you are an avid listener to music, it should be obvious who is the top selling artist this year – Lady Antebellum. Their album, “Need You Now,” has sold over 2.4 million copies this year. That is almost double the amount sold by any of the other four artist. Justin Bieber’s “My World 2.0″ is in second selling 1.4 million copies while Sade’s “Soldier of Love” is in third selling a little more than 1.2 million copies. Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” is in close fourth with 1.2 million copies sold. Lastly, Eminem’s “Recovery” has sold 1.1 million in just 2 weeks!
Last year at this time, both Eminem and Lady Gaga were on the list of four top selling albums. What is impressive is that Lady Gaga’s album has been out for almost two years now and is doing a lot better then most that came out this year.
Digital downloads are doing decent this year despite the fact that sells are down 1 percent compared to last year at this same time. 2010’s best selling digital song is Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister,” with 3.4 million, making it the only tune to shift more than 3 million this year.
Who will be the next artist to go platinum this year? Will there be anymore artist to sell a million copies? I’m sure, but we will have to wait and see. There are still a lot of good albums coming out in the near future.
The Best Selling Albums This Year:
Lady Antebellum – “Need You Now” 2.4 Million
Justin Bieber – “My World 2.0″ 1.4 Million
Sade – “Soldier of Love” A little over 1.2 Million
Lady Gaga – “The Fame” 1.2 Million
Eminem – “Recovery” 1.1 Million
If you are interested in any of the albums, be sure you click on the one you want and it will take you directly to Amazon where you can purchase the album. Amazon is generally cheaper than iTunes and the MP3’s will go into you iTunes account – so, theres nothing to lose and few bucks to gain!

Youtube Sensation – Greyson Michael Chance
I am sure that by now you know that the internet can be a powerful tool – especially for music. People have been discovered through the likes of Myspace and Youtube. Take, for example, Justin Bieber – without Youtube and the internet he would be the rising star that everyone says he is. He would be sitting at home like the rest of us.
Well, luckily for teens everywhere Justin Bieber did what he did. He paved the way for every little 12 and 13 year old to post their videos on youtube, wait a day or two, and then be flown across the United States and handed a record deal. Don’t worry if they have never been on stage or have a clue what they are doing, they will teach them that as long as they can pocket some quick cash off of them. And they will. Not to say that these teen prodigies and talented singers don’t deserve the recognition that they are getting. I am just saying that the internet has made it very easy to gain your 15 minutes of fame without putting in the hard work first.
But, let’s move on. Let’s look at the next possible candidate to take over Bieber’s spot, 12-year-old Greyson Michael Chance of Edmond, Okla. He performed a soulful rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” on the piano at his school’s talent show that rivals the original acoustic performances of the song Gaga herself has done. And naturally, they videoed the talent show and posted it on Youtube – then it spread like wildfire. He doesn’t just put his own spin on Gaga hits, either. Greyson writes and composes original songs about some pretty deep subject matter.
His Facebook page acquired over 10,000 fans in 36 hours. Ryan Seacrest and Ashton Kutcher were tweeting about him. He’s going to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today. Tomorrow night, he’ll appear on the Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson. He has talent and he deserves the attention he is getting. Yesterday he was a boy from Edmond, tomorrow he is the next big thing.
I hope that you see the importance and value of the internet and the impact that it has had – and will have – on the music business. So, go promote yourself – who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Who was Lady Gaga Before she was Famous?
Before Stefani Germanotta was Lady Gaga, she got her start performing on the Lower East Side. She use to play to anyone who would listen at the New York rock club. Here is the Stefani Germanotta Band performing her original song “Hollywood.” (She doesn’t look as outrageous as she does as Gaga, but she still has the same antics.)
Obviously, since then Gaga has figured out how to get peoples attention by taking everything to the extreme (most notably, her wardrobe). She still performed well even before she became the world famous pop-star Lady Gaga.
Let’s Sue Lady Gaga
The ever so talented Lady Gaga is being sued by a former boyfriend who alleges that she owes him money for helping get her music career off the ground. Her former boyfriend, Rob Fusari, claims that he helped the diva by writing songs, promoting her shows, and securing her a record deal. He also claims that she has not paid him royalties he is owed, and has decided sued her for 30 million dollars.
Well, for one, don’t get romantically involved you “business” partner. Who doesn’t see that ending badly? Regardless, Rob Fusari is a producer and has produced songs by big names such as Will Smith and Destiny’s Child. Fusari intially discovered Gaga, helped her write songs, and even gave her the name Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga is yet to comment on the lawsuit, but is counter-suing arguing Fusari tricked her into signing an illegal contract… a contract which entitles him a portion of her merchandising and revenue. In the suit, Fusari seeks a 20 percent cut from Gaga’s two companies Team Love Child and Mermaid Music.
This sounds like a mess. I’m sure many more details will come out on the case soon, but I am also sure there will be some kind of agreement in the near future. Gaga won’t let this bring her down… and neither will her record company.
Fusari is the co-writer of Gaga’s hit song “Paparazzi.”
We The Kings and Paparazzi
The band We The Kings recently released an album that charted number 5 on the Billboard indie list. Now, there music doesn’t sound anything alike, but who hasn’t noticed Lady Gaga? She has been blowing up the Billboard charts and she won two Grammys. Well, We The King covers “Paparazzi.” I wouldn’t say this is the best cover that I have ever heard, but it is unique.
What do you think of it?

Paper Gangsta
Am I the only one that sees the melodic value in this song by Lady Gaga. I mean, I understand it isn’t what most people would chose to listen too, but I think the pre chorus and chorus are perfect. (And yes, the words are pretty cheesy along with the cheesy synth sounds.) Anyway, it is interesting regardless and could take on many meanings. However, I wish they would have left all the auto-tune crap off of her voice. It sounds horrible in the song. It does have a great chord progression and good harmony, though.
Michael Jackson On Acoustic Guitar
Well, I finally found the significance of having a Twitter account. (Be sure to follow me and whatnot @Stevehatmaker.) The reason should be obvious, but you have to go through a bunch of crap sometimes to find it. It is about making a connection, networking, and learning – and I am glad I have one! Earlier, a friend of mine on there was nice enough to post a tweet that led me to find Igor Presnyakov. Presnyakov is an amazing acoustic guitar player that plays some great Michael Jackson covers that he rearranges and makes fit on acoustic guitar. He also plays a wide variety of other artist from Lady Gaga to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Words really won’t do him justice, so just watch the videos. ![]()
And just because I have too…
Be sure to check out more of Presnyakov stuff on youtube! Pretty impressive, right?

This Is It: Michael Jackson Wanted Lady Gaga
If Michael Jackson would have had his way, he would have performed on stage with Lady Gaga for his “This Is It” tour. Unfortunately, time got to Michael before he got a chance. Travis Payne, Michael Jackson’s former choreographer, told RafflesEntertainment that was one artist Michael Jackson wanted to work with more than anyone else today. Of course, Michael said that any artist could come as long as their schedule permitted them too. Payne later told Lady Gaga the story and said “Of course she got moved by it.”
Well, absolutely! What an amazing feeling to know that someone like the King Of Pop want you to join them on stage. I have always loved Lady Gaga. She has a lot of talent and definitely creative. (Well, I define it as creativity. You might say it is strange.) Needless to say, Lady Gaga deserve recognition. So, if you haven’t given her a chance, whether it is because you find her weird or just haven’t gave her a listen, I would definitely suggestion listening to her album The Fame! You will be pleasantly surprised.

All Female Music Record
For the first time in history, the Billboard 200 top 5 were all solo female artist. (For the week ending January 3, 2010.) It has been almost 20 years since an event like this has happened, and the last time it was just the the top 4 spots. The first spot belonged to one of 2009 Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Susan Boyle and her album I Dreamed A Dream. Second was the very talented Lady Gaga and her album The Fame. Number three was one of my favorite singers, Alicia Keys, with The Element Of Freedom. Coming in fourth was the great Mary J. Blige and her album Stronger with Each Tear. And finally, fifth was the amazing Taylor Swift (who happens to be one of my favorite song writers) and her album Fearless.
I just wanted to point this out because I don’t think it really got quite the attention it deserves. Congrats ladies!
Be sure to check out their music:
Susan Boyle – I Dreamed A Dream
Lady Gaga – The Fame
Alicia Keys – The Element Of Freedom
Mary J. Blige – Stronger with Each Tear
Taylor Swift – Fearless

Kurt Cobain Still Alive?
Doubt it, but here is NIRGAGA. It is a mashup between Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.” Works, but it is just… strange. You will either love it or hate it.
What do you think?
